The
chocolate season is heating up and it seems the harmony that dark
chocolate has with wines from France's Rhone Valley are the big theme
this week at the shop.
Following last night's wonderful Qupe
tasting, we have 3 more opportunities in the coming week for you to
taste wines either from the Rhone Valley or made with Rhone grapes such
as Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. Read the Friday Night Flight
and Events sections below for all the details.
New special
chocolate items are rolling in just in time for the Valentine's
Day. We just received three magical items from Charles Chocolates, featured below, and we'll have a few other goodies from Alma, Depaula, Dolfin and Mademoiselle de Margaux arriving this week as well.
Some
dinner plans are cooking up as we speak, so watch next week's email for
a chance to signup for one of our 'very limited seating' dining events
at the shop in March!

Old World classics. Join us anytime from 4 - 8PM. $12

Special Guests Jean Marc and Kristin Espinasse will be at cork

they're part of the Banneret family, we thought it would be great to
also pour the current vintage of Chateauneuf du Pape from Banneret.
Jean Marc has worked in the wine business since childhood and recently
started this new Rhone wine project and the wines are soon to arrive in
Portland. Kristin writes the very popular blog, A French Word a Day

they will charm you with tales of French country living and their
lovely wines. Open tasting, no reservations required. Drop in anytime between 5 and 7pm. Tasting fee $12.

SARA'S CORNER
|
It's
been pretty cold lately, and in light of this grey, wet weather, I have
taken to warming my evenings with bolder reds, from Southern Oregon
blends to trustworthy Italian wines. Here's two favorites we
recently brought into the shop:
2005 ROCKY KNOLL Claret $30/bottle (cork club price $27) Southern
Oregon wineries are popping up with wines that rank alongside
Washington Cabernets and big red blends. This one, from newer producer
Rocky Knoll, is a solid, Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It's a brute of dark fruits, smoke,
and leather notes and would surely appreciate a steak or lamb roast to
break up all of that deliciously condensed plum fruit and bold
structure.
2006 RENATO RATTI Dolcetto Colombe $19/bottle (cork club price $17.10) Last
week when Pietro Ratti was in the shop talking us through his wines in
one of our backroom tastings, it became apparent why these guys receive
such accolades in the wine community. The current offerings of ready to
drink wines are dark, delicious, AND affordably priced. Pietro says
that wines like the current Dolcetto, are made to drink now with food
while your Barolos are getting much needed cellar time.
