Hippity hop, it's another CHOCOLATE HOLIDAY!
Man, when I got into this business I'm not sure I realized all of the
celebrations geared around chocolate. So while you recover from
your St. Paddy's Day binge, I won't bother you with wine descriptions,
but instead let you know about the little feather we just added to our
chocolate cap.
SAHAGÚN CHOCOLATES, made by Elizabeth Montes at her itty bitty chocolate shop on NW 18th & Burnside, is part of what I like to call the Portland Chocolate Trifecta.
Along with Alma Chocolates and DePaula Confections, these three are
turning out the best locally made truffles, barks and handmade
chocolate bars in town. We are excited that we now carry all of
them at cork.
Elizabeth has just dropped off her Luscious
Caramels, Miracle Pills, Figalicious 4-Packs and three of her famous
Barks (Oregon, Pepitapapa and Salt Peanuts!). Now you don't have
to figure out how to find her shop on the Westside. Just head
down Alberta Street to cork and get your Sahagún fill on the Eastside. Remember, most chocolate shops are only open 5 days a week, but cork is open everyday!
Not to be outdone, ALMA
has delivered some cute dark and milk chocolate bunnies and a sweet
selection of truffles, including caramel-filled dark chocolate
bunnies. You shouldn't have any trouble finding the right
chocolate choice to fill your Easter basket this week at the
shop. What Jazz fan wouldn't love a piece of Salt Peanuts! Salt
Peanuts! Bark with their egg hunt on Sunday morning?
Finally, there are still some seats left for Tonight's Big Italian Red Tasting. If you would like to join, please call us first thing this morning to reserve your spot.

BACKROOM TASTING

TONIGHT!! BIG ITALIAN RED TASTING Wednesday, March 19 · $25/person · 6:30pm
I
have rounded up some of my all-time favorite Italian producers for a
new infusion to the shop. On Wednesday, we will open the
following bottles and let everyone get a taste of some of the greatest
wines Italy has to offer. Included will be:
1999 FONTODI Chianti Classico 'Sorbo' · the best single-vineyard Chianti from Panzano 2005 CHIONETTI Dolcetto di Dogliani Briccolero · the wine that got me hooked on Italy 2003 MARTINETTI Montruc · a new-world style Barbera made in very small quantities 2001 GIACOMO BOLOGNA Bricco dell'Uccellone · the most famous Barbera of all 2001 GIUSEPPE RINALDI Barolo 'Brunate-Le Coste' · the standard for classic Barolo
The
total retail price of these wines is $330 and with the 1999 Fontodi and
2001 from Bologna and Rinaldi being stunning vintages, this is a great
chance to get to try them all for just $25, followed by the chance to
take some home at 15% off the regular price. Please join us for
this great opportunity to taste, along with some background stories
about the producers provided by yours truly.
Backroom Tastings are limited to 14 people. Reservations Required. Email me directly at darryl@corkwineshop.com or call 503.281.2675 to hold your seat. This is a wine-only event with crackers to cleanse your palate, but no food.

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIGHT
|
PORTUGAL - CONTINUING DOWN THE DUORO Friday, March 21 · $12 tasting fee · 4 - 8 pm
Last
week we tasted wines from Spain's Ribera del Duero, so this week we
venture to the West to see how dry red wines from the slopes of the
Duoro River in Portugal taste as a comparison. One thing for
sure, there are some amazing values out of Portugal, including a little
gem we just picked up that sells for $7.50/bottle. But there are
also some interesting wines in the $20-25 range and we'll pull together
a nice assortment for the Friday tasting.
$12 tasting fee includes wine and snacks. Drop-in tasting, no reservations required. |
