It's Spring Break for some of you, the sun is trying to poke its head out and it's Last Thursday. Which
means it's time to come down to the Alberta Arts District tonight and
check out new shows at the local galleries and be sure to stop into cork for a chance to meet our newest discovery, Lynsee Sardell. We've pulled together a little trio of Chilean reds to help you relax as you wander the shop and take in Lynsee's work.
Friday, we will pull together our favorite esoteric grape varietals from Italy. What I like to call Italian Fringe,
grapes growing on the edge of our awareness, but which nonetheless add
a bit of style and pizzazz to the assortment regularly found from the
proverbial Old Country.
Watch your inbox next week for some great new wine discoveries and a list of April classes, tastings and events to sign up for.

LAST THURSDAY ART OPENING
|
TONIGHT!! OIL PAINTINGS BY LYNSEE SARDELL
Wine Flight: Chilean Reds $5 tasting fee 5 - 8pm
When
I found the building for cork on Alberta Street, I was excited that in
addition to having a wine shop, we could play a role in the
neighborhood's support of local artists. I think we've done a
pretty good job of finding quality work over the past two years, but I
have never been more excited about an art opening than this evening's. Lynsee Sardell is
a young woman with an old soul. Her work is emotional, evocative
and touches you in a way that is hard to put into words.
Following
a formal Fine Arts degree, Lynsee spent some years travelling the
world, including a bit of time in South America, and her experiences
have deeply influenced her paintings. Working with oils, she
creates touching portraits that have stopped quite a few shoppers in
their tracks over the past few weeks. Please come join Lynsee
tonight to view her work.
As a tie-in to the art opening, it
seemed some wines from South America were in order. We've pulled
together three tasty reds from Chile for a short Art Night Flight. $5 tasting fee, waived if you purchase a piece of artwork tonight!

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIGHT
|

ITALIAN FRINGE
Friday, March 28
$12 tasting fee
4 - 8 pm This week, we take you on a journey of the odd-ball varietals growing throughout Italy and hope we can turn you on to some terrific wines that often go overlooked. We're talking about grapes like Marzemino, Lagrein, Schioppettino and Grignolino.
All red grapes grown in the Northern part of Italy, but grown in the
shadow of their better known counterparts like Pinot Nero, Corvina,
Merlot and Nebbiolo. If you love Italian wine for its ability to
surprise you, then please come check out this tasting. These are
some of my favorite wines to drink with meals, lighter bodied reds that
delight the senses without overwhelming the palate. $12 tasting fee
includes 5 wines and some nibbles. Drop-in tasting, no reservations required. |
