Dear Winefinds Reader,
Today we have one of our favorite red blends from
Austria that arrived for the first time last summer and promptly flew
out the door. Many of you are already fans of this, so Pat has
dutifully tasted and reviewed the new arrival for you below. If
you want some, now is the time.
For my part, I'm sharing a recent
discovery from Burgundy. It's a white we tasted last Friday that
was lost in a crowd of stunning whites, and I believe it deserves
special attention, since it's made from a grape varietal many of you
will be unfamiliar with.
If you'd like to order any of these wines, please send an email to winefinds@corkwineshop.com
with the store location where you wish to pickup (Alberta or
Lovejoy). Once we confirm your order, you need to pay within 24
hours to secure this email-only price. We will email you when your
complete order is ready to pickup. Cheers!

2007 AMIOT GUY Bourgogne Aligote (Reg. $21) cork club $18/bottle or $204/case · non-club $20/bottle
One
of the true delightful discoveries of my trip to Burgundy was ending
each day with a glass of refreshing and crisp Aligote. This is the
other white grape grown in Bourgogne, and it is required to be on the
label when it's used. Amiot Guy is a producer in Chassagne Montrachet
whose wines fascinate me. This is one of their best values, and for
those who love seafood, especially shellfish and more specifically
oysters, I can't think of a better white to have in good supply in your
fridge.
Loaded with mineral notes, this bottling shows some
limestone, sea salt and lime zest. Crisp and clean, it is unoaked and
refreshing. Try some today! Limit 1 case per customer.
2008 PREISINGER Basic (reg.
$14.75) cork club $12.50/bottle or $144/case · non-club $13.50/bottle
Now
that we have a steady supply of Claus Preisinger's wines in our market, I
look forward to every summer when we can get his Basic back in the
shop. For those of you who aren't familiar with him, Preisinger is a
young (like 30!), very talented, and super motivated winemaker who
started his own winery in Austria's Burgenland when he was just 20 years
old. There, he is part of a cadre of talented Austrian winemakers who
are dedicated to creating distinct wines that express their unique
origins. With that in mind, all farming is biodynamic and work in the
vineyard is done by hand. In fact, the largest piece of farm equipment
he uses is a large kettle for brewing tea compost for the vines.
Now this wine is not called Basic because it is simple - rather because this
blend of 90% Zweigelt and 10% St. Laurent is made with the main
varietals grown in Burgenland. Like the previous vintage that everyone
loved so much, the 2008 is superbly balanced, soft, and juicy with loads
of raspberry and cherry, a hint of green herb and a touch of spice. But
it also has a denser, earthier quality that adds a nice truffle aroma to
the finish, which I think adds a whole new dimension to food pairing
options.
You fans of the Basic out there already
know how fast it disappears so if you haven't already hit reply, do it
now and stock up so you can enjoy some over the next year no matter what
the weather decides to do. Limit 1 case per customer.
